Like many on the class I do not consider myself a gamer and do not know much about the subject and what it takes to produce a game. Upon watching Indie Game, it opened my mind on what it takes to develop video games and all the hard work that is in involve. I really had no idea the amount of pressure and struggle that independent game developers have to go through in order to get their work into the market.
I think everyone that sees this movie will have a newfound respect for indie game developers and the capabilities they have and how they use it to create their art. In the movie even though it follows different game developers on different parts of the country, they all share the same lifestyle. In which they have to constantly communicate with their business partners, meet deadlines and no sleep or social life so they can produce their games and put them in the market.
Also in the movie they cover whether or not video games are a form of art. After seeing the movie I do consider the process of creating games an art form. The game developer has to think of the design, music, and programming and how everything fits in with the concept of their game. Many of the developers put their heart and soul onto the design and aesthetics of the game. In today’s society is an open debate whether or not video games are art. For most people video games are seeing as a non-artistic medium basically because it cannot be compared to other established art forms. In my opinion is really remarkable how game designers can bring to life many worlds and characters and at the same time appeal to new audiences.
